What to Pack for a City -Mini Break in Autumn

Pack Light, Look Good: The 3-Day Autumn City Break Capsule

I’ve travelled solo enough times to know this truth: we all pack “just in case”… and then come home with half of it untouched. Meanwhile airlines (hello, Ryanair) are charging like your suitcase is a luxury item. So yes — hand luggage is your best friend.

The secret is treating your bag like a mini capsule wardrobe: fewer pieces, more outfits. Everything needs to mix, match, and earn its place.

Before you pack (2-minute check)

  • Check your airline rules (size + weight). Some only allow an under-seat bag unless you pay extra.

  • Wear your bulkiest bits: coat + trainers + knit = saved space.

  • Check the forecast. Autumn is moody. Dress accordingly.

The rules (so you don’t overpack)

  • Lay it all out… then take half. Brutal, but it works.

  • Keep your colours tight: neutrals + 1–2 accent shades. (If you know your best colours, this is where you win.)

  • Choose fabrics that behave: comfy, breathable, not crease-prone.

  • Toiletries + make-up: decant and edit. One lip to cheek. One decanted foundation. Mascara – Done.

(You could also get your lashes done before the trip and save even more space!)
